Brazil has 12.7 million tweets about the coronavirus since Thursday (12), and pro-Bolsonaro group loses half its participation on the network

The discussion about the pandemic is becoming more complex and is no longer centered around the international context and jokes

The discussion about the pandemic is becoming more complex and is no longer centered around the international context and jokes. Instead, there is increasing concern about the economic, social and political damage to the country. The group supporting Bolsonaro, which concentrated 12% of the interactions before the protests, decreased to 6.5% of participation.

The magnitude (and urgency) of the discussion
Since the end of last week, the debate increased on social networks about personal care and hygiene, support for economic measures to protect vulnerable populations, compliments to initiatives of the Ministry of Health and state authorities, and emergency measures for closing public spaces, commercial establishments and workplaces.

Youtube and WhatsApp: conspiracy theories
Apocryphal videos denying the gravity of the coronavirus have low impact on the Brazilian social networks. However, political debate groups on WhatsApp (also due to the engagement of pro-government representatives) continue to share publications of fake news about cures, mortality rates and the reach (and urgency) of the problem.

From 12% to 6,5% was the decrease in the participation of president Bolsonaro’s support group in the general debate about the coronavirus in the country, before and after the protests.
